Oscars 2013. My choices for Best Dressed

Naomi Watts in Armani Privé

My favorite look from the red carpet at the Oscars last night was definitely Naomi Watts in a futuristic designed Armani Privé metallic gown. This woman is fantastic and I absolutely loved her in The Impossible. I mean, I cried. Well, I admit, I am a little cry baby, but her performance was so touching.

Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture

Charlize is THE red carpet goddess. This dress was amazing but I can’t imagine it on anybody else. The ice queen shone in white!

Reese Witherspoon in Louis Vuitton

I just love Reese. In the same cute I love what you’ve done with your life and dreams way that I love Jennifer Aniston. (Even tough she didn’t make it on my list this time [sad face]). But Reese looks amazing, and she just gave birth to her 3rd child. I adore the old Hollywood glam she’s got going on there – with the hair and the strapless gown.

Jessica Chastain in Armani Privé

Way to go Armani Privé! Two of the most amazing dresses on the red carpet belong to you – and what wonderful ladies you’ve got to dress. Now talking about old Hollywood glamor, Jessica Chastain looks like a ’50s diva in this golden gown that has this special detail that reminds me of spider web. Can’t wait to see her in Zero Dark Thirty!

Jennifer Garner in Gucci

I don’t remember exactly the moment I fell in love with Jennifer Garner. Maybe it was in the movie 13 going on 30 (because I love the idea and the 80s so much), or maybe it was way back when my sister was a big fan of Alias and we where watching it together. But I can tell for sure she has made Ben Affleck a real man and I just love the two of them as a couple.

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta

Now this is what I call a fairytale dress. And who else to sport it better than Amy Adams, the fairy of them all

The Inspirational Styling. Diana Vreeland

Empress of Fashion. A life of Diana Vreeland by Amanda Mackenzie Stuart

Diana Vreeland is one of the greatest fashion influencers of all time and anyone who knows a thing or two about fashion is exhilarated only by hearing her name. While I was reading “Empress of Fashion. A life of Diana Vreeland” by Amanda Mackenzie Stuart, I thought to celebrate her with a styling tip material that I hope to develop as a new section on the blog.
As an insight about the book, I can tell you it is very inspirational, full of fashion history facts and style icon names from the 20s until the 80s. You wouldn’t believe how many things that we consider wow! today, Diana – Dee-ana – was already doing back in the 60s – from changing designer’s clothes so that they would fit in the magazine to mixing vintage! with new pieces, from discovering new faces [Lauren Bacall, Lauren Hutton, Jane Shrimpton, etc] to introducing the first Afro-American woman into a fashion editorial. [Donyale Luna]

The book only shows a small number of photos. That’s why I advise you to read the book with your laptop close and your internet on. And be prepared to give in to Diana’s infinite imagination!

Remember Sarah Jessica Parker impersonating Diana Vreeland in Harper’s Bazaar UK March 2009 issue? She was perfect for the role and here is one of my favorite photos from the photo-shoot taken by Peter Lindbergh.

Lanvin ring, 839,7 lei

As for Diana’s style – she was mostly seen wearing black, but she always added some supersonic statement accessories. She had really small feet and had all her shoes polished – even on the soles – she was always impeccable and a bit stiff. But most of all, she stand out in the way she behaved, always with perfect manners, and the way she expressed herself, with a rich, a bit romantic language, describing things in such an original way – giving a glimpse inside her magical world.

I’m leaving you with some of my favorite quotes and photos

“In this stillness, it is possible to hear things that are lost in the crowded, clamorous rooms; and to feel and know other things that are unheard… Above all, it’s possible to hear the often-disregarded voice of what you yourself think. And if any New Year’s resolve is to be made, it might be to listen oftener to this voice – to be true first of all to this person: YOURSELF. “

The statement coat

The red statement coat was on the lips of everybody starting this fall and who knows until when, because the bad weather doesn’t seem to go away anytime soon. So I decided to show you my pick: a mix of ’60 chic with some military details. It’s perfect from day to night over jeans but also with a little black dress.

Pull&Bear coat/Mango shirt/Diesel jeans/New Look boots/Accessorize gloves

I also decided that this is one of the best ways to introduce to you my kitty cat animal print beanie that I have more than a few months now from H&M. It’s cute, fun and kind of delicious matching with this red coat. I think red and animal print go perfect together when they’re not on a sexy – read ‘cheap’ – lingerie outfit. Also, I’m a big leopard print lover – but I’m not that kind of girl to get away with a complete animal print outfit. It just doesn’t work for me. I’m a more animal print in the details kind of girl. So, I will always opt for a beanie, a pair of pumps or ballet flats, a bag or a scarf instead of a coat or a dress. But never say never… so who knows?

Alina Carp necklace

All that aside I want to introduce you to Alina Carp and her beautiful and so creative jewelry. I discovered her a few years ago when I was working at Shopping Report magazine and I was looking for fresh, talented designers to get inside our pages and out to all the fashion lovers. She is now working on a Ring Collection. I promise to come back with more details on that, because they are stunning and deserve your attention!

Last but not least – I love the cropped trend for spring 2013. Cropped shirts, cropped jackets, cropped pants – everything short looking. I also believe this style looks great on me [I will explain why soon] – so you will be seeing a lot of cropped around here this new season. Until then, rolled over jeans is all I can do – because it’s freezing here in Bucharest and I’m a girl that takes good care of herself, and I prefer to wear warmer clothes than to freeze and get a cold. I [almost] never get a cold in the winter!

PS: Can you tell I was totally freezing when we took the photos? Because I was!! Spring, are you coming already?

The Shopping Tip. Sexy Lingerie for you and for your boyfriend

I’m not saying you should go and buy some lace underwear for your boyfriend. I’m saying that it’s just easy to be a girl on Valentine’s Day (sorry guys!). You buy sexy lingerie for you + you put it on with your man at night = you keep the sexy lingerie also for you and you alone & but it’s also considered you have gifted your man with a pretty image that he can sleep on. Isn’t that just perfect?

Here’s what I’ve spotted for you in one of my favorite lingerie shops:

Bra, 195 lei + Briefs, 85 lei/ Bodysuit, 458 lei

Bra, 280 lei + Briefs, 150 lei

Bra, 850 lei + Briefs, 615 lei

*All the products are from ID Sarrieri. This article was not paid.

The white shoes issue

New Look sweater – find similar/Zara necklace – find similar/Accessorize bracelet – find similar/Nissa clutch – find similar

I’m that type of girl who is really cold in the winter and dresses with the warmest clothes. I don’t get it when I see women in a shirt and a leather jacket at 0°C. So you can imagine I’m a big lover of cosy soft sweaters. This one is so sweet because of the way it was knitted – giving the impression of a print and it feels like a baby blanket on my skin. Just perfect to sport on the weekend, but also over your work attire.

[I kind of love doing my hair on my own because every time when I go to the hair dresser something doesn’t go the way I planned. That is weird for me to say because a few years ago, when I was in College, I had no idea about doing my hair. My best friend Ella was helping me all the time. And she’s the one I have to thank now, because she taught me how to use the hair rollers, a flat and also a curl iron. I can’t say I’m an expert, but I definitely know how to do nice things with my hair, long or medium – how I have it now. And talking about hair – I’m thinking about cutting it again. What do you think? Are you a long or a short hair lover?
I had it really long for more than 10 years and I thought that I will miss it after cutting it. But that didn’t happen at all. At least not yet.]
Diesel jeans / H&M booties – find similar

And now (finally!) back to THE shoes: how do you feel about white shoes? White booties, to be more precise. I didn’t know what to think about this trend at first [because it is a trend!], besides the fact that when I think white shoes I think bridal. But now, I kind of felt for it. I’m in search of a beautiful pair of white sandals for summer. The only problem that kills me is that the streets here in Bucharest are full of dust, and the shoes get dirty so easy. But even so, once it got into my head that I have to have white sandals, I WILL have white sandals.
Styling tip: For elongated legs try wearing this style of shoes with white trousers.

Don’t forget to enter the T-shirt Factory T-shirt Giveaway

Working girl

Mango coat/Zara bag/New Look boots/River Island dress/Reserved shirt

Sometimes I feel blessed because I work in an artistic environment and I don’t have rules for how I have to dress to work. But other times, my inner other personality thinks “Wow, I would love to work in an strict office and have the challenge to invent a new smart outfit every single day”. I can see how big of a challenge is for you working girls out there to keep it smart and sassy 5 days a week. That’s why I thought of you when I put this outfit together.

I think every smart outfit starts with a white crisp shirt. But what comes after that? Try something new and give a break to your skirts and jackets – mix your shirt with a glam dress. Avoid maxi and pick knee-length or midi skirt. Mine is kind of mini, but I like showing my legs.

Folli Follie watch

A metallic more masculine watch will also do the trick and take the glam out of a dress.
